KANNUR: Pamburuthi island in the Valapattanam river inhabited by 180 families and identified as a major bird sanctuary in the region is all set to be introduced to the outside world.
A group of youth from the area is preparing to launch a website on the place. The Pamburuthi Continued Literacy Centre and Bright Valley Students Circle activists have conceived the idea of highlighting the tourism potential of the island.
The history of the island collected by the activists over the last one year has been posted in the website. Pamburuthi Continued Literacy Centre Prerak V.T. Mohammed Mansoor and Bright Valley Student Circle director P.P. Abdulla said at a press conference here on Thursday that illustrated descriptions prepared by local ornithologists of the birds found in the island were included in the website www.pamburuthi.com.
Pamburuthi was categorised fifth among the bird sanctuaries in the State.
They said that steps were also under way to produce a documentary and publish a book on the island.
The website would be formally inaugurated by District Collector K.S. Srinivas at 9.30 a.m. on January 22.
A free eye check-up camp would also be organised in connection with the event, they said.
