Pamburuthi residents launch agitation against sand-mining

an action council and launched a protest movement to prevent the illegal sand mining.Hundreds of peoples took out a march to to the nararth panchayath office where they demanding a ban on sand-mining from the Valapattanam river near Pamburuthi.

of truckloads of sand were being removed from the Pamburuthi river on a daily basis.
"Major part of
of the Pamburuthi has disappeared as a result of the illegal extraction of sand," he
said.
sand mining could be a major factor behind
the unprecedented erosion of Pamburuthi. Hundreds of coconut trees were uprooted due to sand mining. The authorities are blind to this issue.Especially the "Narath panchayath".They given permission to sand mafia stole the the sand near pamburuthi region. Though sand-mining has been banned in the area by Kolachery panchayath, it is being carried out in full fledged
near the Narath panchayath area.They give full support to sand mafia.
